Marriage is God’s idea, not man’s. The blueprint for a successful married life can be found in God’s manual – The Bible. Here are seven gleanings from the scripture and Christian experience I would like to share with you.
1. Honor God together.
Deuteronomy 6:4-5 “Hear, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord is one! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.”
Matthew 6:33 But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
Pray together.
Encourage each other in the paths of righteousness.
Build a home of holiness, thanksgiving, and testimony.
Be active in Church wherever you go.
Memorize and study the Bible.
2. Cling to each other.
Genesis 2:24 For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
Other than God, no one is closer or more consulted. No woman nor man has your attention more than each.
Your bodies belong to each other. Be sexually active towards each other, revel in the glorious gift of marital sex.
Grace and forgiveness are fertile soil for intimacy.
Celebrate each other by making love, making food, making music…
3. Be truthful.
Exodus 20:16 “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
John 8:32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”
Be transparent towards each other. Do not lie to each other. Always be concerned about each other’s hearts being filled with truth.
4. Be hospitable.
1 Peter 4:9 Be hospitable to one another without complaint.
Bring others into fellowship and restoration. Seek to have people at your home regularly! Every Christian home is to be a place for miracles in provision for others.
5. The love of money is the root of all kinds of evil.
Hebrews 13:5 Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, “I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you,”
Let not money be your Master but instead the Holy Spirit. Be cheerful givers. Let money flow freely from your hands to others without strings.
6. Let each other flourish in talent and service to God.
Hebrews 10:24 and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds
Discover talents in each other and cultivate – encourage – them. This should be a lifelong commitment, a great adventure God wants both of you to experience. Reject selfishness and choose to be fertile soil for the other. Serve Christ with your talents.
7. Honor your parents. Have children.
Exodus 20:12 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.
Genesis 1:28 God blessed them; and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
Enjoy and use the opportunity God WILL give you to bless and care for your parents.
Enjoy Children, the provision will only increase! More the children, the more the provision. Children must add to the depth of your relationship with your spouse. They are favor from God not a burden. Children are lent to us by Heaven, allow Heaven to take care of them always.
Final WORDS –
Proverbs 3:13-18
How blessed is the man who finds wisdom
And the man who gains understanding.
For her profit is better than the profit of silver
And her gain better than fine gold.
She is more precious than jewels;
And nothing you desire compares with her.
Long life is in her right hand;
In her left hand are riches and honor.
Her ways are pleasant ways
And all her paths are peace.
She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her,
And happy are all who hold her fast.
Matthew 7:24-27
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell—and great was its fall.”
